Swinging handles, while very common, are also very cheap. They are rarely made of a solid metal, and the finish has a tendency to wear down over time. While the decorative backplate of these designs holds up very well, the worn finish on the handles is very noticeable and cannot be easily replaced. With cup pulls the design is made so well that it rarely wears down, and if it does it is very hard to notice.
